Bulgaria ”Nevrokopski”

In south-western Bulgaria, the Piryn mountain range extends. A kilometre above the surrounding villages rises the third highest peak in the Balkan peninsula, Wichren

(2,914 metres a.s.l.) It was formerly believed to be the seat of the Perondian god, whose name was probably the name of the mountain and the whole region. In the scented pine resin of the area is the base of the Pirynean folklore, which has been maintained for more than seventy years by the members of the Nevrokop ensemble. The group’s name refers to the Nevrokopian ethnographic region that includes the terrain and mountain areas of Greek Macedonia. The ensemble was formed in the middle of the Piryn and Rhodope mountains,

in the town of Goce Dełczew. Artists will present at this year’s festival adapted to the scenic conditions traditions associated with wedding ceremonies and fun and dances. The richly decorated costumes and rhythmic melodies played on traditional instruments (tambourines and pipes) will certainly be remembered for a long time.
