GIEWONT Parish Regional group from Zakopane - Olcza

The group was founded in 1981 and presents the traditions of highlanders from Podhale.

For several yearsit is the representative folk group for the town of Zakopane.

Radośniki (joys) is the title of the program based on the traditional customs and rituals associated with a child’s baptism. The godparents played an important role on that day. At their selection, attention was paid to the character traits, because it was believed that children would be like them. They brought their child gifts. The godmother –Kumoska, a white linen gown, which had magical qualities and played a special role in the further life of whom it was bestowed. The godfather brought drinks and organized transport to the church. The godparents also brought money, which they put under the baby’s pillow, which was supposed to secure wealth. For Only the godparents went to the church with the baby.

The mother was left at home because during childbirth she was considered an impure and susceptible to charms.

After returning home, the godmother put the baptized child on the ground with the words: Wziyni my złe, przynosimy dobre (we took a bad baby and we returned a good on).

Then the mother took the baby from the floor as quickly as she could and put the baby in the cradle. Her quick action was to make her child fast, efficient and hardworking. At home began the hospitality. The guests came and the musicians were invited.

In the program will be a solo dance, polka. The composition of the music: violin and Podhale bass. Group leaders: Maria Frączysta, Katarzyna Stachoń-Groblowy and Tomasz Galica.
